STUDENTS EXPOSED TO HEALTHY EATING THROUGH FARMERS MARKETS

Four nutrition workers pose for a photoThrough a series of Farmers Markets, representatives of SFE-D60 Foodworks exposed young scholars to the benefits of healthy snacking.

"Through Farmers Markets, students are given the opportunity to sample fresh fruits, vegetables, and sometimes prepared food such as roasted asparagus," said Savannah Box, SFE Director of Operations.

"Our purpose is to create a new platform for hands-on nutrition education. Students not only receive interactive education but tools and tips to promote healthy living for the whole family and community."

Through the month of May, Farmers Markets were hosted at Irving, South Park, Haaff, Baca and Corwin.

"This round, we focused on local produce featuring cucumbers, cherry or grape tomatoes, and asparagus from Milberger Farm," said Savannah. "Students were thrilled to find that most of Colorado's asparagus production happens right here in Pueblo."
