DISTRICT, SCHOOL LEADERS TOUR NEW BUILDINGS
Set to open in Fall 2023 as sparkling, state-of-the-art buildings conducive to instruction and learning, the new Sunset Park Elementary and Franklin School of Innovation sites received a host of special visitors Friday, including Superintendent Charlotte Macaluso and members of her Leadership Team, Principals John Hull (Sunset Park) and Dana DiTomaso Junkman (Franklin) and staff, and D60 Board of Education members.
Now past the halfway point in construction, the 56,000-square-foot buildings were funded by a combination of a BEST Grant and proceeds from the 2019 bond originally earmarked for renovations of the current buildings.
Representatives of Nunn Construction – with work crews comprised almost entirely of District 60 graduates – conducted the tours, which were designed to give insight into the individual components of the finished products.
The new Sunset Park and Franklin join Nettie S. Freed Expeditionary, and new East and Centennial High Schools, in a five-school package funded through the partnership with stakeholders in the form of the 2019 bond.
With early enrollment in all District schools open until the first week of January, families have the opportunity to secure a seat as we enter the next phase of educational excellence.
