A MESSAGE FROM SUPERINTENDENT KIMZEY FOR NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH WEEK
Dear Nutrition Services Staff:
With a full and grateful heart, I am writing to wish each of you a happy National School Lunch week on behalf of our district and community!
Some in our community may not realize that you are awake and working hard to prepare nutritious and delicious meals for our scholars even on the coldest and darkest of school day mornings, when most of our city is still snuggled inside. Your work has a significant impact on our scholars' development, not only physically, but also their school attendance and academic achievement. Multiple research studies indicate that providing students with nutritious, delicious meals at school is directly associated with reduced chronic absenteeism (by as much as 6% or more!), increased students' academic achievement, and decreased students' negative behaviors at school!
Not only does your work have those results, but it also is part of the "glue" that helps make our schools positive, nurturing communities for learning. Your smiling, friendly presence each day uplifts our scholars, our staff, and our community.
Simply put, your work results directly in our scholars' being present and powerful, directly and positively impacting our entire community.
We rely upon you each day, and our scholars need you to Be Present and Be Powerful each day!
Thank you again for your hard work and dedication.
