FIRST FAMILY ACADEMY WELL ATTENDED, INFORMATIVE

A large group of parents participating in a workshop at the admin buildingOn September 11, the District hosted a Parent and Family Academy on the topic of Using Infinite Campus to Support Student Success.

Through this session, parents and families learned how to use the key options available in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal such as checking attendance, grades, assignments, and schedules.

Approximately 40 people attended the event, and most of the attendees had never used the Parent Portal before.

"They came to the event so that they could be more engaged with their scholars' academic experience and they left with excitement about using the system to support their students," noted Andy Burns, the District's Executive Director of Student Support Services and Title IX Coordinator. "Attendees commented that the program was a well-organized event, a relevant topic for parents, and it helped parents gain confidence in using Infinite Campus to support their students."

Parent engagement has a direct correlation to student success. Students with engaged parents are more likely to have higher self-esteem, lower absenteeism and earn high grades or test scores so the purpose of this event was to increase access and familiarity with Infinite Campus.

Started in 2023, the District 60 Parent and Family Academy program offers various sessions (e.g., workshops, discussions, and presentations) to help families stay informed about timely and relevant issues facing students and education.
