FREE HAIRCUTS PART OF COMMUNITY SCHOOL APPROACH AT BEULAH HEIGHTS
An effective and efficient strategy for improving education and supporting students, the Community Schools model is designed to more effectively connect students and families to supports, bolster partnerships, and give parents and families more influence in the school community.
Through a holistic approach, collaborative leadership is a key element, with educators and the community working together to bring lasting solutions in light of changing needs. Shared governance is designed to lead to more stable and consistent oversight.
Through a Community Schools Exploratory Committee, Baca Elementary and Beulah Heights Elementary School were identified as pilot schools for the Community Schools model.
As access to regular haircuts is not always available to Beulah Heights scholars, school leadership connected with community partners to provide the free services.
With the venture funded through donations, a steady succession of Panthers took advantage of the free styling, offered by The Works Express Cuts and a mobile unit from Steel City Barbers.
Those wishing to donate to the free haircuts project at Beulah Heights may contact Counselor Reilly at phillis.reilly@pueblod60.org.
