Preschool in District 60

Pueblo School District 60 preschool spots are limited, the Early Childhood program is application-only, and children must meet the eligibility requirements outlined by the State of Colorado.
Children must live within Pueblo District 60 school boundaries to attend preschool programs with Pueblo District 60.
Toilet Training and Diapering
Incoming preschool children must possess independent toileting skills and be fully toilet trained unless they have a disability.
Preschool staff will work on toilet training as appropriate for children with a disability.
Application Process
Preschool is an application only process and this process must be completed prior to the child’s attendance and include the following:
4-year-olds and 3-year-olds with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) - issued by a school district:
- Children must be 4 years of age by October 1 of the current school year to be eligible.
- Children must possess independent toileting skills and be fully toilet trained (no reminders or accidents) unless they have a disability.
- Apply with Universal Preschool Colorado (UPK)
- UPK will email or text families to review and accept your preschool match
- Families then accept the match that UPK provides
- Pueblo District 60’s Early Childhood Department will email families confirming school placement and a link to complete District 60’s Online Registration/Enrollment
- Families must complete the Online Registration/Enrollment process within 2 weeks of acceptance of placement or their spot is forfeited.
3-year-olds without an IEP:- Children must be 3 years of age by October 1 and be 3 years of age before starting preschool. (Example:Jane’s birthday is September 15, but school starts August 12. Jane will not attend school until after her 3rd birthday).
- Children must possess independent toileting skills and be fully toilet trained (no reminders or accidents) unless they have a disability.
- Families must meet at least one qualifying factor based on state qualifiers to be eligible.
- Apply with Pueblo District 60’s Early Childhood Department Online.
- Students that meet eligibility requirements and are placed will receive an email from the Early Childhood Department with a link to complete District 60’s Online Registration/Enrollment
- Families must complete the Online Registration/Enrollment process within 2 weeks of acceptance of placement or their spot is forfeited.
All Preschoolers:- A Health form that includes all known drug allergies, special diet, medications and health conditions for your child must be completed, signed and dated by your child’s health care provider and dated within the last 12 months.
- The Health form must be given to your child’s preschool teacher during your scheduled orientation. The form must be on file within 30 days of starting school or the child will not be able to attend until the form is on file.
DO NOT COMPLETE THE ONLINE REGISTRATION/ENROLLMENT UNTIL YOU HAVE RECEIVED AN EMAIL WITH YOUR CHILD’S PRESCHOOL PLACEMENT FROM ece@pueblod60.org.Need assistance?

Does my child qualify for Pre-K in D60?
The goal of the District 60 Pre-K program is to serve students ages 3-4 with the highest need and who face educational challenges due to family, economic, or developmental concerns.
Age requirements:
- Four-year-old program: Children must be 4-years-old by October 1 of the school year you are applying for
- Three-year-old program: Children must be 3-years-old by October 1 of the school year you are applying for and be eligible for the three-year-old program with qualifying criteria.
- Children who turn 5 years of age by October 1 of the current school year are eligible for kindergarten and cannot attend preschool.
Qualifying for the program:- Four-year-old families can apply for up to 15 hours per week of state funded preschool in the year before the child enters kindergarten through Colorado’s Universal Preschool Program, also known as Universal Pre-K (UPK).
- Families may qualify for more free hours based on a number of qualifying factors.*

- Three-year-old families can apply for up to 10 hours of state funded three-year-old programs through District 60’s Early Childhood Department. If your child is more than one year away from being eligible for kindergarten families must meet at least one qualifying factor.*

● Child is multilingual, meaning a child is learning two or more languages at the same time, or a child who is learning a second language while continuing to develop their first language.
● Child is eligible for special education with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) issued by a school district
● Child is “in low income,” defined as household income less than 270% of the federal poverty guidelines.
● Child is currently in the custody of a state supervised and county administered foster care home or in non-certified kinship care.Please visit Colorado Department of Early Education for more information on qualifying factors.
To get an idea whether your child may be eligible, the Colorado Department of Education has outlined risk factors that would allow your child to qualify for the program. If your child is three years old, he/she must have at least three risk factors, and children that are four or five years of age must have at least one risk factor.

What documents do I need?
Before you apply, please prepare readable scans or photos of the following required documents:
- Child's birth certificate
(Hospital Certificate will not be accepted) - Child's immunization ("shot") records
(All students enrolling in Colorado schools must furnish a current immunization record) - Parent/Guardians Identification
Examples: Parent/Guardian Driver's license, passport, Permanent resident alien card, Naturalization papers, or Birth certificate - Proof of address
Examples: Mortgage statement, property tax bill, current rental lease agreement, or a major utility bill
Shared Housing Residents: If you are living in a shared housing situation, contact the Early Childhood Office at 719-253-6016 for the documentation process. - Guardianship or Court Orders (as necessary)
- Child's birth certificate
