Enrollment

  • How can I apply for my child to attend a magnet school?

You should submit an online application during the application period (February 8 to March 14, 2008) for the 2008-2009 school year.   Applicants do not need to be currently registered in Pueblo City Schools; however, upon acceptance parents/guardians must register their child(ren) in order to be accepted into the program.

How is a student selected for a magnet school?

Students are selected by a random drawing. There is no enrollment criteria; however, specific student history will be required prior to acceptance.

After my child is accepted into the Magnet program, do I need to fill out an application every year to allow my child to continue in the magnet program?

Magnet program students in grades k-5, 6-8 and 9-12 do not need to apply every year to remain in their magnet program; however, magnet students in the fifth and eighth grades must apply to continue in the middle and high school magnet programs.

If I have a student in a magnet school, is his or her sibling automatically accepted in the same school?

For the first year, there is a priority given to siblings from Fountain Elementary School and Corwin Middle School when they enter the same magnet program as the older sibling.

Is any priority given to an elementary magnet student when applying to a magnet middle school?

Yes, the present magnet status of an applicant is one of many criteria factored into the random selection process.

Is there a waiting list for magnet schools?

    There is no waiting list.

How will I be notified if my student is selected (or not selected)?

All applicants will be notified in writing not later than April 1, 2008.

My child was denied to a magnet school...how do I appeal?

There is no appeal for the magnet selection process.

How much does it cost to attend a magnet school?

Magnet schools are part of the public school system, meaning there is no tuition. Additional costs, such as school uniforms, will be incurred. For those families demonstrating need, financial assistance may be available.
